Miscellaneous Special Events & Services

Dating back to the 6th Century as it does, Nevern Church is iconic.  Not only is it ‘special’ as the locals would say but inside it has a wonderful feeling of  peace and tranquillity which blends in with a steeped sense of history and pilgrimages of the past.  It is perhaps therefore not surprising that all this combined with a delightful organ results from time to time in us being asked by leading musicians whether they might perform concerts at the church or even provide supporting roles at services.   We are therefore extremely fortunate in experiencing some very rare and precious events.

Not least of these were:-

2018 Christmas Concert with Scaramella

Scaramella at a Previous concert in 2017

Scaramella Singers are a vocal ensemble based in Newport, Pembrokeshire.  They are regular performers at Nevern Church and together with local cellist Nia Harries, who was a pupil of Jacqueline du Pre for some 6 years, delighted us with a lovely concert not only to get into the spirit of Christmas but also to raise funds for our Tower and Bells Appeal. (To see more details of this Appeal please click here.)

Mince pies and mulled wine were served to all at the end of the concert.

2018 Special Christmas Services with Martin Erhard & Gabriele Schwobel

We were also extremely fortunate this year to be treated to some wonderful organ playing and accompaniment by Martin Erhard who also, together with his wife Gabriele, delighted us with some lovely duets and carol singing at our Christmas Eve and Christmas day services.

Martin is a professional singer and teaches music, Gaby is a teacher but now works in educational Administration.

The couple, who are married, live at a little town called Rheinzarben near Karlsrhue just over the German border about an hour north of Strasbourg.

They are very widely travelled and in the New Year were the guests of Lastingham church on the North York Moors.  We just hope they will honour us with another visit in the near future.
